Tales of the Old West

Dr. Harold Hickman is an Emeritus Professor of the School of Communication at Northern Arizona University (NAU); where he taught Mass Communication and Broadcasting courses for twenty years. He is the former owner of KONY-FM and KUNF-AM in St. George. He also built and managed KLVX-TV, Channel 10, (PBS) in Las Vegas, Nevada and KOET-TV, Channel 9, (ETV) in Ogden, Utah.

He holds degrees in Speech and Theatre from Southern Utah University, the University of Utah, and his doctorate from the Department of Speech and Theatre in the College of Fine Arts at Brigham Young University (BYU). He served as Chair of the Speech Communication Department and Assistant Dean of the School of Communication at NAU. He was Assistant Director of the Motion Picture Studios at BYU and Assistant Professor of Communication at that school.

Hal has published a textbook titled “Television Directing” through McGraw-Hill, New York, and has completed manuscripts for “Horn Silver,” a history of the ghost town: Frisco, Utah, and “Passage” (a novel.)
